Catching Up with Bob Quinn
December 4 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join one of Montana's favorite farmers, Bob Quinn, for a discussion on food and farming and learn about his latest projects. Bob is always informative and inspiring! Don't miss this fun and engaging event!
After founding of Kamut International and converting my farm to a regenerative organic system, both started in 1986, I have had a rare opportunity to combine two loves in my professional life: One is that of organic farming, which occupied most of my summers. And the second is traveling through much of the winter to attend conventions, food shows and to visit other organic farms throughout the world. This allowed me to promote organic agriculture and the KAMUT® brand ancient wheat. During my extensive travels, I have been grateful for what I have seen and learned as well as the generosity of spirit, interest, and time that has been shown to me wherever I go. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to make friends throughout the world. I believe Will Rogers who once said, “A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet.”
I will certainly miss seeing and visiting with you all our normal annual conference, but since nothing is normal this year I am thankful for this opportunity to touch base and hear discussions and ideas from many of you. I am completing the 3rd year of my 3 year retirement plan in December. Some things are running a little behind schedule but generally, I have transitioned from running the farm (rented out - still 100% organic - to my helpers in 2018), and being the lead with Kamut International (Trevor Blyth, who has been running things for the past several years, will officially take over as president in May of 2021 at Expo West (35 years from the first Expo we ever attended). I plan to spend my summers and winters growing my own food (up to 85% currently) and continuing my research on 4 acres of dry land vegetable, small grain and cover crop experimental plots, my orchard, and sub-terranean greenhouse. I am hoping to give you a little recap on my current experiment to mediate glyphosate contamination of our fields due to contaminated rain, a progress report with the food sovereignty project I am helping with at Stone Child College on the nearby Rocky Boy Reservation as well as an update on my proposed organic research center. I am looking forward to catching up in December.
